History
The brand was started in 1927 in Germany. The name Tutima comes from the Latin word and means “Safe – Secure”. Mr. Ernst Kurtz created two companies, the company Urofa which was more focus on manufacturing ebauches and Ufag produced finished wristwatches with its top brand Tutima which became synonym for quality. In 1938, the government integrated the two companies in the armament industry and stopped producing civilian wristwatches. In 1939, the companies made one of the Glashutte’s most famous watch “The Reich Air Force Watch” or what we call today the Tutima Glashutte Pilot’s chronograph. The famous caliber was the 59. In 1960’s, Dieter Delecate, a confident of Kurtz made an offer and took over the company. In 1985, the German army contracted Tutima to create a brand-new military watch, Military Chronograph 798. Tutima was also a precursor to use titanium to manufacture its watches. In 2011, Tutima returned to its home town of Glashutte.
