History
The Schlup’s brothers located in Lengnau founded the company in 1917. Their goal was to manufacture only watch movements. In 1947, the family hires Dr. Paul Luthi to manage the company. The company sells movements and is very successful in particular overseas. In 1954, the company started to face competition from Japan and other German companies and decides to make complete watch. In 1956, the company started their own watch brand “Exacto”, however, the name failed to be fully protected and arise then the name of “Rado” in 1957. In 1962, Rado introduces the first scratch-resistant wristwatch under the name of “Diastar”. Since 1983, the company is owned by the “Swatch group”.
