Beautiful rectangular Art Deco style 14K yellow gold watch with gray dial and gold Arabic numerals for each hour and sub dial at 6 o’clock for seconds. The watch has gold hands with Cathedrale style. The shape of the case reminds me the Chrysler building. Inside the back case is engraved “Star Watch Case Co. – 585 Fine – 14K – 1397166 and date the watch to 1879”. It is a manual winding movement with 17 jewels. It is numbered 27 – 786054”. The watch comes with a brown strap. Having this watch is part of the American history of horology.
History
The Waltham Watch Company, also known as the American Waltham Watch Co. and the American Watch Co., was a company that produced about 40 million watches, clocks, speedometers, compasses, time delay fuses, and other precision instruments in the United States of America between 1850 and 1957. The company's historic 19th-century manufacturing facilities in Waltham, Massachusetts, have been preserved as the American Waltham Watch Company Historic District.
