History
Hermes was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermes in Paris when he set-up a workshop to make saddles and brides. The first watches came in 1927. They were made by Audemars Piguet, Haas Neveux, Le Coultre, Mido and Movado. In the 1930’s, Hermes started doing its own models for the wrist, the pocket and the belt. In 1978, the company opened a watch factory in Bienne “La Montre Hermes”, for the production of its own collection. In 1999, new company premises were inaugurated, where 130,000 watches are now produced every year.
