Leonidas chronograph calendar with Valjoux 72C in 18K YG – 1950’s

Beautiful rose gold dial Leonidas watch with three sub dials, three o’clock for the minutes, six o’clock for the hours and nine of clock for the seconds. Hours are marked with dots and Arabic numeral. 2 windows at 12 o’clock for the day and month and on the outer of the dial comes a blue ring for the date. Hands are silver color with “Dauphine” style. It is a 18K yellow gold back case with engraved outside “514420” and inside “18K - .750 – Hammer 141 - Leonidas”. The watch comes with a manual winding movement and caliber Valjoux 72C and 17 jewels. The watch has a new Camille Fournet burgundy alligator strap. Width between lugs is 18mm.

History

Julien Bourquin started his company in 1841 in the Saint Imier as Leonidas, name of the king of Sparta. It started with affordable watches and pieces measuring the time. Leonidas is famous for the production of stopwatches and chronographs with counters. In the early 20 century, many countries were using Leonidas watches like Germany, France, Japan, United States to name a few. In 1964, the company merged the Heuer Company. The new company called Heuer Leonidas SA specialized in stopwatches and chronographs.
