Breitling World Timer – Ref 80840 – Blue dial – 1980’s
Breitling World Time with reference 80840 with round blue dial and four sub dials, with the time at 6 o’clock. On the dial appears N, E, S, W for the poles. A digital scream comes at 6 o’clock for the date. Each sub dial has its own Breitling crown. It is a “Swiss” model”. Very rare, an addition clock comes below the main dial. Both bezel are in gold. It is a stainless steel screwed back case with engraved outside “Breitling World 80840 – 3436 – Swiss Made – Stainless Steel – Water Resistant” and the small one with the reference B61072 – 9893”. The watch has a quartz movement. The watch comes with a brown leather strap and an original Breitling stainless steel clasp. Very interesting watch for Breitling lovers and collectors.
History
Leon Breitling started Breitling in 1884 with his own chronograph. In 1892, Leon built a watch manufacture called “G. Leon Breitling S.A., Montbrillant Watch Factory. In 1914, Gaston Breitling takes over the business and creates the “Vitesse” model. In 1932 Willy Breitling took over his father and creates the “Chronomat” in 1947 and then the “Navitimer” in 1952. In 1962, a Breitling chronograph was catapulted into the space at astronaut Scott Carpenter wrist. Then came the famous caliber 11 in 1969 called “Chronomatic” developed by Breitling and Heuer. The story of Breitling ended in 1979 before being revived by Ernest Schneider in 1982 and managed today by his son Theodore.
