Rare Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute ref 809 – Mark 3 with round black dial and Arabic numerals for the 24 hours of the day. The watch comes with the gold AOPA logo at 12 o’clock and Navitimer at 6 o’clock. The watch comes with different rings for aeronautic calculation. It has three white sub dials. The hands have a stick shape but the particularity of this model, the hands on the sub dial have the Sword style. It is a Swiss Made T model. The watch comes with the Breitling crown. It is a stainless-steel case with engraved in the back “Breitling Stainless Steel 809”. Inside the back case is engraved “Breitling Watch Ltd – Swiss – 1023556” and date the watch to 1965. History
Leon Breitling started Breitling in 1884 with his own chronograph. In 1892, Leon built a watch manufacture called “G. Leon Breitling S.A., Montbrillant Watch Factory. In 1914, Gaston Breitling takes over the business and creates the “Vitesse” model. In 1932 Willy Breitling took over his father and creates the “Chronomat” in 1947 and then the “Navitimer” in 1952. In 1962, a Breitling chronograph was catapulted into the space at astronaut Scott Carpenter wrist. Then came the famous caliber 11 in 1969 called “Chronomatic” developed by Breitling and Heuer. The story of Breitling ended in 1979 before being revived by Ernest Schneider in 1982 and managed today by his son Theodore.
