Vintage Breitling chronograph with reference 1190 from the 1950’s with large round two tone light gray dial and two sub dials for the seconds at 9 o’clock and minutes at 3 o’clock. The patina on the dial reflects the long life of the watch. The hours are marks with triangle and the outer ring is black for the seconds. The hands are in steel with Dauphine style. The back case is in stainless steel with engraved ouside “Breitling – Stainless steel back – 1190” and inside “882481”. The watch has a manual winding movement with caliber Venus 188 and 17 jewels. The watch comes with a black strap and the width between lugs is 20mm. Very nice collectible timepiece.
History
Leon Breitling started Breitling in 1884 with his own chronograph. In 1892, Leon built a watch manufacture called “G. Leon Breitling S.A., Montbrillant Watch Factory. In 1914, Gaston Breitling takes over the business and creates the “Vitesse” model. In 1932 Willy Breitling took over his father and creates the “Chronomat” in 1947 and then the “Navitimer” in 1952. In 1962, a Breitling chronograph was catapulted into the space at astronaut Scott Carpenter wrist. Then came the famous caliber 11 in 1969 called “Chronomatic” developed by Breitling and Heuer. The story of Breitling ended in 1979 before being revived by Ernest Schneider in 1982 and managed today by his son Theodore.
