32mm Lemania in gold and stainless steel from the 1950’s with caliber 3000
Beautiful mid-sized mythical Lemania watch with round light gray dial. The watch has Arabic numerals in gold for 3, 9 and 12 o’clock and batons also in gold. The second sub dial is at 6 o’clock. The hands are in gold with Dauphine style. The crown is signed with Lemania logo. Inside the stainless steel screw back case is engraved “Fond acier – inoxydable” and #283/5. Outside the case is engraved “Water proof – Swiss Made – Antimagnetic – Incabloc – Stainless steel back. It is a manual wind movement with a caliber 3000 and 17 jewels. The watch comes with a brown leather strap. Very desirable watch.
History
The watches and watch movement manufacture Lemania was founded in 1884 by Alfred Lugrin who got his expertise at Jaeger LeCoultre. He was particularly talented and got awards and gold medal in 1906 in Milan and in 1914 in Bern. Until 1930 the company was named Lugrin SA and then became Lemania Watch Co. In 1932, Lemania, Omega and Tissot joined to form the SSIH group. Great calibers were created 1873 (Omega caliber 861) became particularly famous with the Speedmaster which in 1962 was selected by NASA for manned space flights and then on July 21, 1969 accompanied Neil Amstrong on the moon. Then in 1972 came the caliber 1340 and then 1974 with the caliber 5100. In 1992, the company was under Breguet and then 1999 with the Swatch group.
