They say that the natural course of life is never to outlive your children. Tragically, this was not the case for Mark Burnstein, who lost his beloved son, Alex.

Alex’s passion was music — specifically, playing the guitar. He picked up the instrument at 13, shortly after his mother’s passing, and poured his heart into learning. He took private lessons at a local music academy and found joy in playing metal. A gifted musician, Alex performed alongside some of the industry’s most renowned artists. In April 2018, he had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp in Hollywood, California. There, he played with legends like Paul Gilbert, Dave Mustaine, and Zakk Wylde. A highlight of the event was performing on the main stage at Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip. Over the years, he met and played with icons such as Synyster Gates, Brian May, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, and Joe Walsh, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Amidst profound grief, Mark found strength and purpose in honoring Alex’s legacy. He turned his pain into a powerful tribute—one that supported the causes Alex held dear.
Alex loved animals deeply and dedicated his time to rescue efforts. In his honor, Mark donated $1 million to build a new shelter for animals in need. Now, he is embarking on another meaningful project: selling his entire watch collection.

Mark Burnstein is selling his entire watch collection
All proceeds will benefit underprivileged children by providing them with access to musical instruments and lessons. The funds will go directly to the Bloomfield Band and Orchestra Boosters Foundation in support of the Alex Burnstein Memorial Fund for Music Education and Experiences.
This initiative has already received incredible support from many, including Lucy Walsh, a professional musician, singer, songwriter, and daughter of Joe Walsh of The Eagles.
