Rare Omega Seamaster 120M Maxi – Jacques Mayol – Ref 396.0900 – 06/1982 - Mint – Full set
The Omega Seamaster 120M quartz from 1981 is an ultra-flat deluxe diver watch which was successfully tested by the Frenchman Jacques Mayol during his free dive to a depth of 101 meters on the 4th of November 1981 off the coast of Elba Island, Italy. The Big Blue movie was based on the real-life diving of Jacques Mayol.
Mint condition, rare and full set Omega Seamaster 120M Maxi with reference 396.0900 has a round black dial with baton for each hour and minutes. At 6 o’clock is engraved Seamaster 120 – quartz and “Swiss Made”. The window for the date is at 3 o’clock. The hands have a baton style. Luminous are perfect. The watch has a black and gold rotative bezel. The screwed crown is in gold with the Omega Logo. At 2 o’clock comes a pusher to set the second and minute. The case is in stainless steel with engraved outside “1337”. The watch comes with a quartz movement with caliber Omega 1337. The watch comes with a stainless steel and gold bracelet like the AP (Apparently AP had licensed this design to Omega and thus this Gerald Genta design) with a double clasp with reference 1382/381. The bracelet fits a 7.5 inches wrist. It is a full set with box, paper, and extra link. Real collectible as I never saw a full set before and the watch is such in mint condition.
History
The story of Omega started in 1848 with Louis Brandt when he opened a “Comptoir d’etablissement” a sales office for sub-contracted watch manufacture. In 1880, the brothers Louis Paul and Cesar Brandt set-up a modern watch production unit. In 1889, the company had a production of 100,000 units per year. The name of Omega only appeared in 1903. Omega has developed amazing movements such as the “Labrador” in 1885. In 1917, Omega provided watches to the British army and in 1918 to the American army. In 1957, the speedmaster professional was born and then selected by the NASA in 1965 as the official timekeeper. Today, Omega continues to demonstrate mechanical innovation and remain one of the most prominent brands in the world of watchmakers.
